An intercooler is, at its essence, a heat exchanger in turbo or supercharged engines. Its primary responsibility is to take the extract the charge heat, caused by turbo pressure increase, and releases it into the air like the car radiator. Cooler and denser air can then enter the engine and results in more torque and power. Performance Diesel Intercoolers are leaders in optimising the performance of your intercooler without compromising your vehicle.
- You do not require an intercooler if you don’t have a turbocharged or supercharged engine. The temperature of the air intake on a Naturally Aspirated engine can be cooled with cold air induction systems.
- When the intake air temperature is high, it results in a richer hotter burn which is not ideal for diesels. The intercooler can drastically reduce the temperature of the intake air, thus causing more fuel to burn as a result of the oxygen present in cooler air.
- The more load is placed on the engine, such as when towing or driving through heavy sand the higher the intake temps can rise – effective intercooling can control this. With insufficient or no intercooling older engines will exhibit rising exhaust gas temperatures and modern (common rail) engines monitor the intake temperature so they can pull back on the fuel (power) to preserve the engine.

- All our piping is stainless steel as it has a low-heat transfer ideal in tight spaces. Furthermore, it’s easily cleaned thanks to its polished surface.
